If I could write art a love letter, I would. Since childhood, art has been and will always be my passion. It is a form of expression that has never once stifled me, but instead, continuously opened new passages into my identity and understanding of the world around me. It is a joyful maze with no end in sight. To me, art is staple in our culture and what fuels me is a chance to one day be able to contribute to that culture.
I consider my specialty to be watercolors paired with inks, however, I enjoy experimenting often and I continue to explore new media whenever given the chance. Whether it be oil painting, hand-building ceramics, printmaking, fibers, or experimental film, I try to approach them all with respect and a sense of humility.
I consider my work as a whole to be cultivated by my personal experiences, humor, and my lifestyle. Pretentiousness, a characteristic often wrongly attributed to artists, is something I want to contradict in my work. I want to create work that is funny, non-traditional, and beautiful all the while capable of possessing adult sentiments. My work can be described as “subtle” in the fact that I really don’t want to hit viewers over the head with my ideas, instead I would like my ideas to be present themselves like a whisper. Most of my work is created with darker themes in mind, however, I would never wish to outright plague my viewers with those feelings. Instead, I offer happy, humorous work with the potential to be analyzed.
Visually, my work tends to incorporate a bright, sometimes flashy color palette with a varying amount of happy figures. I am largely influenced by children’s books and enjoy singular, whimsical images in my work.
I am proud of the steps I have made as an artist. The value of the contemporary artist is something that is often unrecognized, I work to not only affirm this value, but dispel the notions that original art is anything less than essential to our changing society.
I currently reside in Phoenix, Arizona. I am a Studio Art teacher and avid retro gamer who is always looking for an opportunity to learn something new, lemme know if you have any questions about my work or website!
